     I came to know Mr. Oertel and his wife Billie, many years ago through his loving daughter and family; Doris, Robert, Bobby and Jon Recor who are absolutely representative of Irv's and Billie's life together.  It was apparent, that their motto was When you meet an obstacle, move through it, but do not forget from where or how, it arose.  
Mr. Oertel, enlisted in the Marines, during WW II, I have read the accounts of his experiences on Okinawa during that time.  It is my hope, that today we all have the same Love of Country focus that Irving Oertel exemplified; He gave his all unselfishly for his family and his Country.  He earned through his service the Purple Heart, and seven other medals for valor and exemplary duty.  
His New Hampshire cabin provided for Irv, his friends and his family; an opportunity to relax, enjoy the quiet beauty, and hunt!  He was the consummate Artisan builder; today's cabin, represents all that Irving Oertel was all about; sustainable living, energy efficiency, at a magnificent location.  We have been most fortunate to have been afforded the opportunity, to enjoy it with Irv, and his family.
Irv was a remarkable man; he worked his way in tough times, and succeeded.  He was a valiant soldier, in defense of our country.  I consider myself extremely fortunate, to have known him.  His legacy lives on, through his entire family, for they all have grown from, and exemplify the Right Stuff!

We were honored to have met and enjoyed having Mr. Oertel as our Goss Road neighbor in Hanover, and are saddened to hear of his passing. We are grateful for his long and rich life, his friendship and service to our country, and treasure our memories of his presence there with his wonderful family.

One of my Dad's best friends. Saturday morning breakfasts, and a million rich memories of Mr. and Mrs. Oertel. Thank you for all of them. I especially remember breezeway visits, and letting the 4 of us share Blackie and Bootsie. Good memories!

I Shorty, especially remember the time Uncle Gramp and I were in New Hampshire cutting wood for the skiing season and a tree feel {Out of nowhere} right beside the tractor I was seated on, the branches brushed the old International Harvester tire, nearly hitting me.  Needless we packed up the chainsaws, axe, splitting mall, gasoline and chain oil; then called it a day!  I remember the first time we went out hunting in the back acreage, walking through the woods together, not really hunting; but with our rifles ready!!  The First time I learned to swim was a throw into a wave at 'Seaside beach club'.   The first time I drove a car, a VW Herbie at about the age of 10 in front of the Enfield N.H. policeman to get the tractor to pull Mrs. Edson out of a sinkhole on Moose Mt. road.  AND the time we were at the Palace in Hammonassett Beach and a young girl laughed at his 1940's ? bathing suit.  So much of my upbringing was with Gramp and Gram.  I KNow we Will meet again!

A sad day, such a great man. I have so many wonderful memories as a kid. Whatever he was doing you could tag along and he would teach you. Thanks Mr. Oertel.

My Wonderful grandfather, I Will greet him again!  I will miss all the work we did together, plus the frequent trips to New Hampshire; "The Shack" the shooting wood cutting. His laugh & voice calling me "Shorty"
