It is with deep regret to hear of Alfie's passing. We shared many hours 'on watch' together over the years. Many stories, jokes, and dreams were shared between us at sea. Unfortunately, I heard the news just days ago, at sea, most likely near areas where he and I traveled together.

We've known Alfie for almost two decades. What a great guy! He was more than a mechanical genius.  He was always there to help or guide with whatever challenge was brought before him. He had a broad spectrum of knowledge whether mechanical, or personal, that he was willing to share in the best interest of others.

I've known Alfie like forever..He was a great friend.  My favorite memory was of him helping my husband , Bill put in a garage door that he had given Bill..   We met him at Stop & Shop one night and  Alfie wanted to know if the door was installed  Bill did his usual tap dance.  Alfie just looked at me and said "Have the coffee pot on" and he came the next morning and the boys installed the door.
May you rest in peace.

Alfi and I met in 1969 back then he was a great mechanic. We worked at  nilenglers appliance store delivering appliances . He hung around with us at the brown derby dounut shop talking about cars and trucks . He was a great friend . It’s a shame we lost touch over the years but that happens  god bless you Alfie .  

Alfie was a great friend to my sister Sharon and because of that friendship, he became a member of our family.  I will miss the conversations at family events with my husband, recounting Old Saybrook memories and all the people and places they both knew (even though nobody else knew who or what they were talking about!)  It's clear from all the tributes, that Alfie was a special person who was loved and will be remembered kindly as someone who gave to many and took little in return.  I have no doubt he is at Peace.  Good people always are.

As a teenager Alfie took the time to mentor me. He was so patient in teaching me so many life lessons.  So many funny sayings some of which I stole and use today.    He would give you the shirt off his back if you asked.  I feel terrible I allowed time to escape me and didn’t reconnect with him.  I will never forget his patience and kind way.  Alfie you will forever be in my heart as you helped to shape the man I have become thank you for investing in that goofy awkward kid. Until we meet again and  I’ll bring the bag of 50s. Rest In Peace 

It is tough to hear of the loss of Alfie. Working at Atlantic over the years and meeting Alfie was definitely an experience, especially in your mid 20's and early 30's. Sometimes you don't realize the people you meet will give you lessons in life, people, and work for years to come.  However, we choose to view those experiences, the lessons learned from Alfie still ring true today. Truly a man of his time and generation. Someone many people to this day still ask about in the field. As a field tech, it is hard to fill the shoes Alfie has walked in.

When we did talk and he still worked at Atlantic and after, Alfie always asked " hey kid(even though I am now in my mid 40's) how's your mom and dad? Sister good?  wife ok? How is Ryan and Billy? then we talked shop.  The calls always ended with" say hello to everyone, be good kid"

The best memory we have is my 30th birthday, he was in his prime, rolled up with the service van, set up tables, grill, lobster pot, and rotisserie. He cooked lobster, and food all day into the night, always had a smile on and everyone had a great time. Yes in his style that is a beef tongue on the rotisserie in the background.   

Sharon and Alfie's extended family I am so sorry for your loss.

Alfie, you left a big mark on the people here in Old Saybrook and beyond.  From the time when you and Eric were being mentored by Charlie, I could see you both would achieve your goals at a young age.  You helped many persons, family and friends!  Thank you.

Alf was one of the best  - as a person and a professional.  Extremely competent and compassionate. He was the BEST in a world where there are many.
Known Alf since the mid 80's. Always someone you could count on for his knowledge, and to be there when you were in trouble. When any problem occurred, you could count on Alf to quickly figure out what happened and what was needed. 
Very rare to know someone so talented at understanding machines and people.

My dear friend Alf, you will be greatly missed. I’m so sad your gone. Going north and south each year will never be the same brother. You made so many trips back and forth in spring and fall as my crew engineer on the Cedar Island yacht based out Clinton, Ct. I owe you so much, you helped and taught me so much over the years. Which have been filled with lots of laughing at your classic one liners:

He always told it like it was. Love steak dinners,

The best mechanic and Tech I ever knew! I relied on his expertise with out question because if he said it you could bank on it when it came to engine and most things in general. 
He Would always help and never say no
We lost a legend in my book! See ya in the promise land Alf and rest well with you Father in Heaven brother, you did a great job while on earth as far as I’m concerned.

Fly High Alfie 

I still cannot believe that he is gone.  There are countless memories that I have with Alfie, first as his girl friend and later as my best friend.  Those will remain in my heart forever.   I will share one memory - as most of you know - Alfie usually got you, long before you could get him.  One day we were out driving in a rain storm, I was driving and we were having a hot debate.  So when it was time for me to take a left turn, I rolled down his window in the middle of the turn and soaked him with the water running off the roof of the car.  Score one for me!  As a friend - he was always there for you.  He never, ever, said NO to anyone in need.  He knew how to do almost everything and if he didn't know, he would figure it out until he did.  He loved to give his knowledge to others - when doing so he would always start with "Think about it".   I thank God for lending him to all of us, who were blessed to have crossed paths with him in life, over the last 65 plus years.  Rest in perfect peace my friend - until we meet again.  

Alf Was a awesome friend . he would always be there to lend a hand. I met Alf back in the late 60 "s when he lived across from Risko 's He could fix anything, He will be missed.

I am so sorry to learn of Alf’s passing. He was a good man, and I will miss seeing him at our OSHS Class of ‘74 reunions.  My sympathies to his loved ones/family.

I am very saddend to hear of Alfie's passing.  I worked for him at Atlantic Detroit for a few years.  I think he was the biggest ball buster I've ever met, but his heart was even bigger.  He definitely enjoyed helping people most of all.  I will always remember him saying "You've got diarrhea of the mouth!" but really he had it.  I hope we meet again Alfie, and thanks for everything.

I worked every day with Alfy for years, he was one of a kind, I will never forget him, so glad he was part of my life. I am so sorry for your loss, but he will forever live in our heart.

Alfie - the world lost a great mechanic. The memories of working with Alfie will certainly last a lifetime. His countless one liners, His willingness to always lend a hand. His character was like no other. I’m very thankful for the experiences we shared working on engines together. He taught me a great deal mechanically and to always ask for “a bag of fifties and a plane ticket” if anyone ever asked if there was anything else you needed.  I hope the lord has something good for you to work on up there buddy.

Alfie was a long-standing family friend and he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.  He alone hauled a rather large air conditioner up 14 steps in my apartment and years later it would take two people to remove it . He helped my Dad out on several occasions in my Dads later years.

I lost a friend today. I went from divorce to a widow today. 

We shared many years together. Through difficult times we remained friends. I lost a friend today and  "Pop" to our granddaughter, Kyra. 

Alfie, family and friends. Paul and I were so sad to hear news of Alfi's passing. Alfie was such a great friend to all. We go back at least 45 years. Thanks for all the great memories, stories and laughs. Master Mechanic of everything.We were "Old School" but young at heart. RIP our wonderful Friend.
