

Anthony J. Kurtin, 98, formerly of Westbrook, CT died peacefully on January 3, 2023. He was the widower of his beloved wife, Lorraine Mazurek Kurtin. Anthony, son of Peter Kurtinaitis and Veronica Klekna Kurtinaitis, was born in Great Neck, NY on March 15, 1924. He was an army veteran of World War II, having served from 1943-1945 in General MacArthur’s headquarters as a radio operator in the Philippines and Japan; and in 1945-1946 training replacements for the occupational army in Tokyo. In 1947-1948, he worked for Lockwood, Kessler & Bartlett of Brooklyn, NY as a member of its team in Saudi Arabia in communications and surveying of the transarabian oil pipeline, the largest in the world at that time. He was an electrician and a Univ. of New York trained and certified refrigeration and air conditioning technician. He worked for 14 years in the Great Neck School System. He retired in 1990 after 25 years with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, North Haven, CT in the plant engineering department.
Anthony was the beloved father of his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly M. and Sean M. Walsh of Westerly, RI; his sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher A. and Christina Steele-Kurtin of East Haddam, CT; Robert M. and Kristen Kurtin of Middlefield, CT; and son Peter A. Kurtin of Oakdale, CT. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth K. Taff of Camarillo, CA; and brother and sister-in-law Robert and Joan Mazurek of North Haven, CT. Anthony is also survived by his two grandchildren, Lauren and Audrey Kurtin of Middlefield, CT and his nephews Robert and Andrew Mazurek of North Haven, CT. Besides his wife, Anthony is predeceased by his brothers Alexander Wesey of Great Neck, NY, Peter P. Kurtin of Glen Cove, NY, and sister Mary Ann Wesey of Westbury, NY. Calling hours are from 9:00-10:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 7 at Swan Funeral Home, 80 East Main St, Clinton, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation in Clinton, CT at 11:00. Anthony will be laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery, Westbrook.
