Constance O. Rosenthal, known to most as Connie, was a unique and accomplished woman far ahead of her time. She was born on August 12, 1933 in Baltimore, MD where, due to her ridiculous artistic talent, she won a full-time scholarship to Maryland Institute of Art. A working mom before everybody did it, she was a commercial artist creating award-winning displays and later authored books on the subject.
In the 1960s, Connie and her husband Phil put down roots in Old Saybrook, CT where they raised their three children and Connie’s creativity continued to soar. After opening the Pennywise Lane Play School which provided a fun and solid foundation for many of the children of the area, she launched her culinary career. A self-taught cook since the age of 12, she turned her mad skills in the kitchen into a catering business which culminated in the position of Executive Chef at the Country Squire Inn in Killingworth.
After her multiple successful careers, Connie spent the better part of her retirement painting watercolors, cooking for the people she loved, and watching her all-time favorite show, The Crown. (We’re sure Netflix will be mourning her departure, as well.)
Connie died peacefully in her sleep after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Phil. She leaves behind her sister Beryle (Bob), her son Ben (Nelle), her son Jon (Ilana), and her daughter Liz.
