

George W. Crute, Sr., age 84, of Old Saybrook, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford, with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie Cushing Crute. Born in Mount Vernon, NY, George went on to serve in the United States Army as a Sergeant first class and later earned a degree in Accounting and Electrical Engineering. He was employed by New York Telephone for 38 years before retiring in 1987. He moved to Old Saybrook, CT in 1988 where he enjoyed life and hosted many “pig roasts”. George was an avid boater his entire life and other hobbies included cooking, gardening, furniture making and fishing. George was a very loving and giving man and was never short of a joke. Affectionately known as Good Lookin’, he will be missed by many.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his brother, Allen Jensen; sons, Barton Carl Crute, James John Crute, George W. Crute, Jr, and stepson, Brian (Mary) Saczynski. He was predeceased by a brother, Carl Jensen as well as a daughter, Barbara Ethelyn Kull. George also enjoyed the company of his grandchildren Bergren and Henry Crute, Kailynne Crute and Victoria Saczynski.
Visiting hours will be on Saturday December 5th from 1-3pm, with a memorial service beginning at 3pm, at Swan Funeral Home at 1224 Boston Post Rd Old Saybrook, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice, Inc., 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 or to a charity of your choice.
