

65 years. She was born on August 25, 1922 in Highland Park, Michigan, daughter of Howard and
Lena Bliss.
Jean grew up in Michigan. As a young woman, she studied ballet with a company in Detroit, then traveled to New York to dance with The New York City Ballet. She married Robert Schroeder in 1946 and they settled in Toledo, Ohio. In the 1950’s, they established residence in Greenwich, CT where they lived for 42 years. In 1993, they relocated to Woodstock , CT and most recently to Westbrook, CT. Jean worked for Fawcett Publications and the Riverside Branch of the Putnam Trust Co. Her passions were her family, gardening, cooking and baking, reading, and collecting cookbooks. She found great peace in the beauty of the natural world. She and Robert loved to travel. They particularly enjoyed several trips to Austria, Germany and England.
Besides her husband, Jean is survived by four children, all of whom were blessed to have such a kind, gentle, and compassionate mother: Robert L. Schroeder and his wife, Pam, of Moorpark, CA; Susan S. Milici and her husband Al, of Columbia, CT; Sandra Mahlstedt and her husband, Steve, of Trumbull, CT;
and Barbara Fallon and her husband, John, of Fairfield, CT. She is also survived by nine grandchildren whom she deeply loved: Katherine, Matthew and Andrew Milici, Michelle, Daniel and Heather
Mahlstedt, and Ally, Kelly and Molly Fallon; two great grandchildren, Jocelynn and Matthew Milici; and two sisters, Mary Helen Growt of Michigan and Betty Sharef of Florida.
Jean was always very concerned about the welfare of others. One of her most passionate causes was making sure the people of CT had enough to eat. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Connecticut Food Bank. A private graveside service will be held. Burial will be in the Putnam Cemetery, Greenwich, Ct. Swan Funeral Home, www.swanfuneralhomeoldsaybrook.com, is in charge of arrangements.
