John M. “Lefty” Alberini, 83, formerly of Old Saybrook, CT, passed from this world early on the morning of Tuesday, August 25th, 2015 at the Peregrine’s Landing memory care facility in Clinton, CT. Born March 23rd, 1932 in Hopkinton, MA to Catherine and Peter Alberini, John lived a full and rich life that allowed him to pursue his life-long passion for golf. As a young man, John was a rugged individualist and avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and hike. He also loved sports of all kinds, particularly baseball, and was a left-handed pitcher for the Framingham Collegians during the 1950’s. He played hockey recreationally, enjoyed running, competing in the 1982 Boston Marathon, and especially loved to play golf. He was a member of the Clinton Country Club for many years, and belonged to the Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs, CA where he spent many winters during his retirement. Most recently, John was a regular at the Fenwick Golf Club of Old Saybrook. During his career, John worked both as a teacher and guidance counselor, retiring from the Old Saybrook High School as its guidance director in 1988. Those who knew John during his lifetime will surely remember the brilliantly funny, fun-loving and competitive man’s man that he was. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Frances (Hubert) Alberini of Old Saybrook, as well as four children, Catherine (Alberini) Shea of Colchester, CT, John Alberini Jr. of Guerneville, CA, Rosemarie Alberini of Killingworth, CT, Patrick Alberini of Amston, CT, four grandchildren, Patrick Davis, Kelley and Austin Shea, Jaye-P. The family would like to extend its appreciation to the staff at the Peregrine’s Landing in Clinton, CT for their care and kindness over the past couple of years, and asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of CT.
