

She was born on March 8, 1930, in Brookline, MA, the daughter of Daniel Augustus Lakeman and Margaret Edgerton Ahearn Lakeman.
She was the widow of Edward Maynard.
Mary Jean attended Thomaston Elementary school in Thomaston Maine until she became a resident in town attending Old Saybrook High School. After graduation she went on to complete her education at Bay Path Jr. College in Springfield Ma. She later married Edward and they raised seven children. Mary Jean was a familiar face at Maynard’s Farm Market during summers and during the holidays, where she greeted and served many local residents and seasonal visitors.
Mary Jean is survived by her children Edward, II, Margaret, Jeannine “Nina”, Wendell, Leigh-Bette, and George; brothers Daniel Lakeman and William Fifield; She is also survived by 14 grandchildren Luke and Ryan Maynard, Brianna (Botts) Hogarty, Caleb, Wade, and Noah Botts, Nolan Pianta, Ariel (Pianta) Carlson, Alexandria Maynard, Paige Doerrer, Britnie (Maynard) Golkowski, Melissa, Shannon, and Troy Jorgensen; and great grandchildren Juliet, Lyla, Gatsby and Colby Maynard, Wyatt and Piper Hogarty, Shelby Porter, Maddalyn and Maxwell Lintelmann, Zandra Golkowski, and Brayden Pianta.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Maryjean Maynard and her brother Edward Lakeman.
Calling hours will be held on Monday November 27th from 5-7:30pm at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday November 28th at 11am in Grace Episcopal Church, 336 Main St., Old Saybrook. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Old Saybrook, will be private at a later date.
