Born in Sheldon, VT, Roger had recently moved from Ellington, CT, to Westbrook where he enjoyed his final days. He was the son of Harold Hemingway and Esther Demague. He was employed in the Trucking Industry with various oil and produce companies. He retired 14 years ago after a diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma which he suffered with for many years.
He was a longtime member of The Elks Lodge. As an avid New York Yankees fan, Roger’s love for baseball was a big part of his life and he was thrilled when he had the opportunity to go to a NY Yankees game at their new stadium. He also looked forward to Football Sundays, cheering on the NY Giants. One of his favorite pastimes was watching Old Western movies and listening to Elvis. He enjoyed vacationing on the Maine Coast and visiting his family in Vermont. He enjoyed camping as he explored the many campgrounds throughout CT. What brought him most joy was visiting his daughter Tammie in AZ and spending time with his son Scott, during his many visits.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years Marilyn and her two children Tammie Gineo of Phoenix, Arizona and Scott Gineo of Milford, Connecticut, his two brothers George Hemingway and his wife Karen of Florida, and Victor Hemingway of Coventry, his three children, Roger Jr. and his wife Victoria of Pomfret, Leon of Willimantic and Sharon Dimmock of Plainfield, Connecticut, and numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Celebration of Life will be held at 34 Worthington Drive, Westbrook, CT on Saturday, August 3rd at 1 p.m. in the Community Center. Roger’s memory will be a light in the hearts of all who knew him. His kindness, passion, and love for his family, will always be remembered fondly.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation. A special Thank You to Dr. Pazooki of the John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center of Manchester, CT. and his wonderful Staff for all their hard work. Always a smile on Roger’s face when he left there. Amazing and comforting people.
