Russell Barnes Jr.

Russell M. Barnes Jr., 73, of Old Saybrook beloved husband of Cindy L. Grey, passed away peacefully at his home on November 16, 2012. Born in Waterbury on July 20, 1939, Russell is the son of the late Russell M. Sr., and Phyliss (Kaliss) Barnes.

Besides his wife of over 8 years, Russell leaves behind his loving companions, his dogs Tucker and Peaches and his cats Smokey, The Bandit, Pheobe and Meep. He will be missed by many.

Russell attended the Sprague School in Waterbury and then graduated from Crosby High School in Waterbury. He continued his education at the Cheshire Academy first, the graduated from UCONN before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served over 25 years. After retiring from the U.S. Army as Lt. Colonel, Russell began working for the Federal Government’s Department of Education where he continued for many years.

Family and friends may gather at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook on Wednesday November 21, 2012 at 10am for a memorial service.
