Born on May 26 1959, he is the son of Phyllis Jankowski of West Hartford and the late Frank Bengtson of New Britain. He is survived by his 3 amazing children, Ashley, Matthew and Timothy, who he cherished more than anything and were his best friends, whom he shares with his former spouse Janice Bengtson. He also leaves behind his significant other Cheryl Testa, as well as his brother Edward Bengtson and wife Virginia of Berlin, their daughter Melissa and husband Mike Muszynski of Wethersfield, Brother Leonard Bengtson and wife Alice of Plainville, their 2 sons Nathan Bengtson and wife Kaytie of Old Saybrook and son Andrew Bengtson of Plainville, and his sister Lynn Graf and husband Mark of Avon, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepfather Raymond (Chief) Jankowski and his younger brother Stuart Bengtson. Ray helped “Big Shot” Stephen with stock market/investing tips, they were very close, and Stephen looked up to Ray as both a Mentor and a great Friend. Stuart spent his years being a best friend to Stephen and the kids.
Steve graduated from E.C. Goodwin Technical school with honors and a scholarship. He started his own heating business in 1986, and is the owner of Correct Heating and Piping. He loved his job and excelled in his field. Steve and his family were members of Valley Community Baptist Church in Avon for several years, he was very devoted to his faith. Steve was the hardest worker, never complained and was always there when you needed him, no matter the circumstance. He loved working with his hands and on cars, and spending time with his family. He was a very dedicated, honest man who believed in always doing the right thing, his many loyal customers trusted and requested him. Dad poured his heart into his family, work and faith. He was the most patient man and father, always devoted to his 3 children, and they know they are blessed to have had the best dad, an amazing role model to teach all of life’s lessons. From enjoying working on our vehicles to helping and teaching us with our home projects, to giving advice, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix no matter the complexity, dad would find a way and take the time to complete it. He was our rock in every aspect of our lives. We will never forget the endless memories of our family vacations, fishing trips and times at the beach. He is our world and will be greatly missed, never to be forgotten.
Friends may call on Monday September 27th at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd, Old Saybrook, CT from 6pm-8pm, and the burial will be held privately.
