"The song has ended, but the melody lingers on.”
—IRVING BERLIN
Archie Rivers, 79, of Bradley, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on December 27, 2021 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Archie Rivers II, son of Archie Rivers Sr. and Violet Rice, was born on December 18, 1942 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He served in the Navy in young adulthood and relocated to Maine where he resided for the remainder of his life. Professionally, Archie was a “jack of all trades”. He was a skilled carpenter, an excellent musician who once won a talent show that sent him to Nashville, a singing bus driver for Cyr Bus, and an incredible teacher for Old Town Regional Program, but throughout his life, his most important and cherished job was fatherhood.
He is survived by his children: Ray Timmons and spouse Vicki, Dicki Timmons, Terri Carr and husband Brian, Archie Rivers III, Tammi Stevenson and Husband Scott, Michelle Rivers Presnell, Kittridge Rivers and spouse Melinda, Daniel Rivers, and Laura Rivers. He also was fortunate to have 23 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife, Christine. He is also predeceased by his wife, Kathryn Rivers, who has been patiently waiting for him in Heaven.
Archie is remembered as a man of great character; he was always willing to help anyone in need, he lived his life with integrity, and he never backed down from a challenge. He was loving, kind, funny, and brought joy to the world with his beautiful spirit and music. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends, performing for others, spending time at camp and being with loved ones. Archie will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is now filling heaven with his voice and his love.
The family would like to thank Westgate Center for Rehabilitation and Alzheimer’s Care along with Constellation Hospice for their excellent care of Archie.
A celebration of life for Archie will be held Friday, December 31, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St, Old Town, Maine 04468. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Westgate Activities Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine.
