

Old Town-- Beatrice Anne (Reeves/Reed) Spencer , 90, died peacefully February 26, 2023 at her home with her daughter Cheri and good friend Helene by her side. She was born August 22, 1932 in Bangor the youngest child of Louise (Reeves) Thompson and her husband Ralph of Hampden.
She graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1950. Bea worked in various Bangor offices and joined the staff at Hampden Academy, as a secretary to the principal, then C. Ford Dyer. While serving in this capacity, she was elected president of the Maine Educational Secretaries Association. She greatly enjoyed her many colleagues and students at the high school. In 1964 she joined the staff at the Bangor Daily Dews in the public relations department, retiring in 1980 as administrative assistant to the production manager. Bea worked a few years following this, for then Public Broadcasting Radio station, and later joined the Walter F Carpenter Consulting Firm in Old Town. Upon Mr. Carpenter’s retirement, Bea sought employment with the State of Maine Department of Conservation, Bureau of Public lands, located at the Old Town airport. Bea stopped working fulltime in 1995.
She was able to volunteer her time at several places, such as Zephyrhills Hospital gift shop in Florida for 15 years. For the last six years, Bea volunteered at Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor where her daughter Cheri is employed. She was a hard worker and she was “Mom”, to the entire clerks’ office.
Bea and her husband Don continued an active lifestyle, enjoying many adventures with family and friends. She cherished her Friday night dates with Don at Riverside Pizza in Old Town. She was a member of the Old Town Methodist Church.
Bea is survived by her husband of 48 years Donald “Don” Spencer who is the love of her life; two daughters from her first marriage, Cheri and her husband, Andy Taylor of Old Town and Lori Reed of Florida; two stepsons Don Spencer Jr and his wife Lori of Hermon and James Spencer and his wife Leslie of Clifton; Bea is blessed with several grandchildren, including Calum Taylor, Gretchen Spencer, Madison Spencer and many other step-grandchildren. She has one surviving sister Helen “Honey” Bartlett of Bangor, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Richard, Calvin, and Thomas Reeves, as well as sisters Katherine Small and Constance Smith.
A celebration of life service will be announced later in the spring. Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Old Town Animal Orphanage PO Box 565 Orono, ME 04473
