OLD TOWN—Irvine R. Calhoun, 69, died peacefully with his wife by his side June 16, 2022 at his residence. He was born August 22, 1952 in Parkers Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada, a son of Reginald and Mary (Walsh) Calhoun.
Feeling the call of God to the ministry, Irvine Calhoun enrolled in Bible College and graduated from United Pentecostal Bible Institute, spring of 1974. Irvin accepted his first pastorate in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia in 1975. While in Nova Scotia, their two sons were born. Under his leadership, the congregation built a lovely brick building, in the adjoining town of Stellarton, and the congregation relocated to the new facility. Irvine was ordained into the ministry at Harvey Camp, by the late Rev. Nathaniel Urshan in 1976. Irvine’s second pastorate was in Chatham, New Brunswick, where he ministered for five years. After that, he and his family moved across the border to Maine, where he accepted the pastorate in Fort Kent.
Irvine was a lover of books and always had a great thought in his message. Although he retired from full time pastoring, he continued to minister on weekends, even in foreign countries, and blessed many congregations with his knowledge of God’s Word.
Irvine was gifted as a carpet layer, and again, blessed many churches by installing their carpets, often staying over Sunday to preach. He enjoyed the peace and solitude of Nash’s Lake in Washington County.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Ruth (Moore) Calhoun; two sons Kevin Calhoun and Andy Calhoun and his wife Jennifer; granddaughter Justina, great grandson Bentley, chosen grandson Kaeden; “adopted” family Rev. and Mrs. Pastor Wade Townley and their daughters Tavia, Tandice, and Taegan; siblings Sandra, Eileen, Sandy, Michael and Fred; sisters-in-law Pat, Lois, and Louise; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
A celebration of his life will be held 12 noon Monday June 20, 2022 at the First Pentecostal Church of Brewer, 14 Parkway South, Brewer, ME 04412. Memorial contributions may be made to the church ministry https://www.fpcandme.com/give-online
Burial will be at a later date at Parkers Ridge, NB, Canada.
