Chris graduated from Lubec High School, Washington State Teachers College in Machias, and the University of Maine Orono with a Masters Degree in Education with an eye on pursuing a career as an educator. He would spend a long career as a teacher, coach and administrator at both Viola Rand and Lewis Libby schools in Bradley and Milford. Chris was an avid outdoorsman and loved his time fishing and duck hunting with close friends and his sons in earlier years. After retirement, Chris enjoyed traveling and spending time exploring warmer climates. However, much of his time was spent at Camp on Gardner Lake which was one of his favorite places on earth. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, reading, many visitors over the years and especially having his family and grandchildren spend time at the lake with him. Chris was a wonderful soul of a person. A great listener, always kind and generous to those that knew him. Perhaps one of his greatest strengths was his ability to tease and kid with people in a way that made them feel important and loved.
Chris is predeceased by his parents James and Everene Bate and his son Kevin Christopher Bate.
Chris is survived by his best friend and loving wife of over 59 years Rosemarie Bate, sons J Timothy Bate and partner William Sandstead, Brunswick, ME, Mark Bate, Milford, ME, Jeremy Bate and partner Lisa Mark, Brunswick, ME, and four grandchildren J Colby Bate, Parker Bate, Kassidy Bate and Julia Bate.
