Judy was one of “The Girls from French Island in Old Town” and was proud of it. Judy worked for the University of Maine in Orono for 47 years as an Administrative Assistant in various departments including Mechanical Engineering, Geology, Food Science and Human Nutrition, and part time in Journalism. She also attended the University of Maine as an undergraduate student.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Daniel and Viola Cote of Old Town; and her brother, Carl Cote of Old Town. She was also predeceased by a special mother in law, Mildred Tremble Polyot of Bangor (a.k.a. “The Blue Grammie” because her house was blue); and a sister in law Catherine Polyot Fessenden; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In May of 1967, Judy met her future husband, Stephen Polyot at McDonald’s while he was making French fries. They were married in 1974 and had two children: her daughter, Kerry Polyot Stefani and her husband, Roger of Bangor; and son, Sean Joseph Polyot and his wife, Amy of Orono, and their son, Hayden James Polyot of Orono, who was born on “Grammie’s Birthday”. Judy really enjoyed being a grandmother and loved spending time with Hayden. In addition to her husband and children, she is also survived by two sisters, Nancy Marra of Derry, NH and Linda Cote of Bangor; a sister in law, Susan J. Polyot Tyler and her husband, Larry of Bangor; as well as several nieces, nephews and an uncle, Al Cote of Old Town.
In her younger years, Judy would spend times drag-racing in Bar Harbor with her future husband’s car; spend time at the ocean; and when she had children, she loved spending time at the family camp on Pleasant River Lake, especially after her grandson was born.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to My Friend’s Place and Memory Joggers and all of the healthcare providers who assisted in her illness, including Kindred Hospice and Winterberry Heights. The family would also like to extend their thanks to Judy’s caregiver, Sarah, with whom Judy had a special relationship.
Those who wish to remember Judy in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Memory Joggers, 703 Essex St., Bangor, ME 04401. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church, 429 Main Street, Old Town, with the Rev. Kyle Doustou, celebrant.
