Marie graduated from Old Town High School, class of 1955 and earned a diploma in Office Administration from Husson College in 1983. She was employed at the University of Maine as a secretary in the Forestry Department and later became an administrative assistant in the School of Social Work where she worked until her retirement. She enjoyed her work and especially liked interacting with the college students.
Marie had an energetic and effervescent personality and was always looking for a smile from her audience. She was blessed with many artistic talents and enjoyed playing the piano, oil painting and, in her younger days, square dancing and bowling. Marie was an excellent cook, candy maker and baker, and after her retirement, assisted her sister Caroline with her catering business. She was a skilled seamstress, enjoyed knitting and crafting and spent hours caring for her beautiful flower gardens.
Marie raised her children to be self-sufficient and independent. She was a 4-H leader and gave her children opportunities to enrich their childhood through planning camping trips, playing sports including baton twirling, taking music lessons and teaching them to garden, cook and sew. Marie was very proud of her children and their accomplishments. Making sure that her children spent time together as adults, Marie planned annual family barbeques and holiday gatherings. Her grandchildren always looked forward to her parties and the gifts of homemade chocolates and peanut brittle.
Marie is survived by her children, Karen Bond and husband David of Milford, Maine; Patti Rapaport of Bangor, Maine; Linda and husband Peter Reid of South Portland, Maine; Paul Roy, Jr. of Hermon, Maine; and Dawn Closson of Milford, Maine.
