

1923-2023
Alton – On June 15, 2023, our beloved mother, grandmother, and sister passed away at the age of 100 years old while residing at Westgate Center in Bangor, Maine. Mildred was born in Stockholm, Maine on June 5, 1923. The daughter of the late Florent and Leontine (Garand) Plourde, she was one of ten children. Survived by three brothers; Alfred (Pete), Donald, both of Florida, and Gregory Plourde of Stockholm, ME. Mildred attended school in Stockholm, Maine and the School of Nursing in Brookline, MA. She worked at James Taylor Hospital in Bangor and was also a licensed insurance agent for Bankers Life & Casualty. Mildred and her husband George operated a grocery store in Boyd Lake, ME and owned a trailer park in Alton, where they resided for more than ten years. Mildred married the love of her life, George Lufkin on February 14, 1942. They had been married for 74 years and last resided in Old Town. Mildred was a devoted member of the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic parish in Old Town where she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by a son, Galen Lufkin of New York; daughter, Dianna Farrer of Florida and a daughter-in-law, Linda Lufkin of Holden. She is predeceased by her husband, George Lufkin; a son, Russel Lufkin; a son-in-law, James Farrer; her sisters, Candid Forsman, Queenie Peterson, Orilla Forsman, Velma Lufkin, Theresa Anderson and her brother, Allen Plourde.
Mildred has nine grandchildren: Kenneth, Steven, John, and Michael Lufkin of MA, John Farrer (Sarah) of FL, Jayson Farrer (Danielle) of CT, Jennifer Lavoie (Steve) of FL, Angela Lufkin of NC, and Allison Ford (Bill) of Holden. She also has 16 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visiting hour at the Birmingham Funeral Home in Old Town from 8:30 to 9:30AM on July 31, 2023. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at The Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church, 429 Main St. Old Town, ME on Monday, July 31 at 10AM followed by the internment at the Alton cemetery, Alton, ME.
