
Nelson Newell Ranco II, 83, passed away Wednesday April 8, 2015 at his home in Orono Maine. He was born November 3, 1931 in New York City, the son of Germaine White (Robinson) of Orono and Nelson Newell Ranco of Indian Island.
In addition to his wife, May Ranco, Nelson is survived by his four children, Nelson “Cappy” Ranco and his wife Ellen of Collegeville, PA, James “Chip” Ranco and his wife Pam of East Hanover, NJ, Robert Ranco of Austin, TX, and Darren Ranco and his wife Stephanie of Hampden; 11 grandchildren, Ezra Ranco, Rafiq Walker, Jessica Ranco, Nicholaus Ranco, Morgan Ranco, Eric Ranco, Tori May Ranco, Kasey Ranco, Holden Strong, Sadie Strong, and Jude Strong.
Nelson grew up primarily in Orono with his mother’s family and went to St. Mary’s for primary and high school. A veteran of the Korean War, he attended Husson University and spent most of his professional life working as an accountant for Diamond International.
Nelson was beloved by many and was known for his great sense of humor. He was a kind, loving, and even-tempered man. His wife May was the joy of his life and his children made him glow with pride. Smiling and laughing were common in Nelson’s presence, as he would share stories and an occasional glass of Chivas Regal with his friends and family.
