Arthur Preston Waymire

Art retired as the President and CEO of BlueCross BlueShield of Memphis in April of 1994 following 35 years of dedicated service.

He was an avid outdoorsman that loved: farming, golfing, fishing and boating. He was an important member and served as the first president of the Marshall County Forestry Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Jarutha Jerline Waymire.

Art is survived by his wife, Theresa “Tammy” Waymire; two children, Bette Waymire, Steve Waymire (Karen) and a brother, Wayne Waymire (Lynne). He also leaves behind three granddaughters, Ashley Gevers, Lindsey Hazzard (Jonathon), Anna Higdon (Andrew), and two great granddaughters, Olivia and Chloe Hazzard.

The family request memorial contributions be made to American Heart Association, Emory Independent Methodist Church “Cemetery Fund,” or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am at Emory Methodist Church, 872 Watson Rd. Byhalia, MS 38611. Burial will follow at Emory Methodist Church Cemetery. The family requests that all guest in attendance to please wear a mask to protect vulnerable family members.
