

Billie Bowe Blocker, 89, of Olive Branch, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 26, 2011. Born in Nash, Texas, on November 14, 1921, to the late Dora and Leck Blocker, he was the youngest of five children.
A veteran of World War II, Billie served as co-pilot of a B-24 bomber and spent ten months as a Prisoner of War in Germany. After proudly working for American Airlines for 35 years, he became an active member of the Vanguards, the American Airlines Retiree Group. He will be remembered for his letters to the editor as well as the part-time column that he wrote for the DeSoto Tribune. A long-time resident of Maywood and member of Maples Memorial United Methodist Church, he was a true patriot, a proud Texan, and a devoted family man.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy, in 1955 and his beloved wife, Wanda, in 2010. “B.B.” is survived by two daughters, Becky (Cleve) Reaves of Hernando, and Lynndy (Bill) Travis of Olive Branch; five grandchildren, Michelle (Ronnie) Morris of Hernando, Abbey Reaves of Hernando, Lindsey (Blake) Hill of St. Louis, Megan (Joey) Carr of Memphis, and Bowe Travis of Olive Branch; and one great-grandson, Gus Hill of St. Louis.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 28, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until services begin at 3:00 p.m., at Maples Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Blocker Cemetery in Olive Branch. For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the American Cancer Society, Maples Memorial United Methodist Church, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation in honor of his late wife.
