

Affectionately known as “Poppy” by family and friends, he was among the first firefighters to serve with Shelby County and dedicated 25 years to the department before retiring. He enjoyed classic cars, going to the races, and attending auctions. Known for his sharp eye and love of making a deal, Poppy had a gift for trading and bargaining that became part of his charm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester H. and Annie Marvelle Poppenheimer, and his sister, Ann Sherrod.
Poppy leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Tracy Poppenheimer; three children, Bill Poppenheimer (Carri), Ashley Asher (Jimmy), Brandon Poppenheimer (April), and four siblings: Les Poppenheimer (Pat), Claude Poppenheimer, Sue Roberts (Scott), Glen Poppenheimer (Laurie). He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Preslee Asher, Noah Asher, Ella Poppenheimer, Brandon Farmer, and Kayla Korpi.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM with visitation beginning at 12:00 PM at Compel – Olive Branch, 7790 Davidson Rd. Olive Branch, MS 38654. Burial will follow at Autumn Woods Cemetery, 6240 Davidson Rd. Olive Branch, MS 38654.
