

Olive Branch - DOYCE ELLIOTT HUNT, SR. “Doc”, 81, passed away April 26, 2011. He was born April 23, 1930 at Ackerman, MS, son to James Edley and Gertrude Prewitt Hunt. He graduated from Ackerman High School in 1947. He was the captain of his high school football team, and in the year of 1947, his high school football team won the Magnolia Bowl State Championship of Mississippi. He was also captain of his high school basketball team and was awarded a basketball scholarship to Mississippi State. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1952. He joined the Navy in 1954 and went to Officer’s Cadet School. Having grown up on a family farm near Ackerman, MS, he never lost his love of the land. Doc owned land in DeSoto and Tate County, MS and raised cattle and farmed crops. He and his family moved to Olive Branch, MS in 1964. He was a businessman who owned Hunt’s Grocery in Olive Branch, MS. Also he was the owner of Tri-State Pallets and Hunt’s Pest Control of Olive ranch, MS and Memphis, TN. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Peggy Williams Hunt of 58 years; his children, twin daughters, Sharon Hunt Estes (Bill) and Sharol Hunt Brown; his sons, Doyce Elliott Hunt, Jr. “Bud”, Kenneth Barry Hunt (deceased) and Jason Edley Hunt. He also leaves behind 8 living grandchildren and two deceased grandsons; brothers, Cameron Lee Hunt and Steven Ferrell Hunt; 14 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, Fretchie Hunt Booth (Glen), Eddie Lugenia Hunt Busby; brothers, Feddy Eckford Hunt (deceased), Bobby Prewitt Hunt (deceased) and Coyt Riddell Hunt Lynett. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a friend to everyone and loved by all. His love of the Lord and his Christian faith sustained him in all walks of life. Visitation from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 27 at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch. Services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, April 28 at Olive Branch Church of Christ, with burial in Autumn Woods Cemetery.
