James Lawrence Sylvester Jr.

Dr. James L. Sylvester Jr. (Larry), 62, went home to be with the lord on Friday, November 11th, 2022. He was born on October 6, 1960 to the late James L. Sylvester Sr. and Mary Helen Moody in Jones County, Mississippi. Larry was retired after twenty-five years from the Desoto Center of Northwest Mississippi Community College. He also worked as a professor at Belhaven University for 15 years before retirement. He was the past president of the Board of Directors for Disability Rights Mississippi before his passing. He loved spending time with his twin granddaughters and family. Larry enjoyed working at his farm and hunting. He will be remembered as a loving Christian husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Larry was preceded in death by his father, James L. Sylvester Sr.; Son, James L. Sylvester III; and his sisters, Linda Ruth Newman and Helen Frances Hollums. He leaves behind his mother, Mary Helen Powell; wife of 35 years, Patricia C Sylvester; daughter, Hannah S. Craft; sister, Sybil Kerry Walker; two stepsisters, Carol Elizabeth Campany and Mary Catherine Foley; one step brother, William Francis Powell. Larry also leaves behind two grandchildren, twins Isabel and Charlotte Craft.
