

James William Wages, Jr. passed away December 13, 2011, after a long, hard fight, in Houston, Texas. Jim was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 17, 1947, and was a 1965 graduate of Oakhaven High School there. He subsequently attended Northwest Junior College and was in the National Honor Society. Jim was an office employee at Roadway Express in Memphis for 30 years and was awarded the "You're Number One" Employee of the Year. He enjoyed playing competitive golf, bicycling and hunting. Jim was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served during the Vietnam era as a Sonarman. He was married to Linda Futrell Wages of Memphis for 43 years. They resided in Desoto County over 30 years and were winter residents of Gulfport, Mississippi, where Jim was a seasonal employee of Pine Bayou Golf Course on the Seabee Base. Jim is the son of James W. Wages, Sr. of Bartlett, and his mother, Hazel H. Wages preceded him in death in 2003. Jim also leaves his brother, Mark Wages of Southaven; sister, Lindsay Wages Conner of Bartlett; sister-in-law Joanna Wages of Southaven; brothers-in-law James Futrell of Atlanta, Georgia and Wayne Futrell of Nesbit; and mother-in-law Clara Futrell of Southaven. He also leaves behind many good friends from around the country that he made from being a "full-time RV'er" since his retirement. Services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p. m., with visitation at 1:00 p. m. at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, 6875 Hwy 305 North. Jim will be buried in the Veterans Cemetery in Memphis at a later date.
