March 31, 1940 – Feb 21, 2020
Margaret Crook was born in Huffman, AR on March 31, 1940. In 1945, she and her sister, Penny, were adopted by Vera Quinn and brought to live in her home in Shelby County, TN. She was a graduate of the University of Memphis (B.A., M.Ed.), became a school teacher in both public and private schools, and retired after a long career from the Memphis City Schools. She was married to her husband, Ronnie Crook, for over 54 years and raised two sons, Mike and Jeff.
Margaret loved good food, good coffee, good wine, and a good book. She loved to travel and to spend time with friends and family. She loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs and horses, had many beloved pets, volunteered for several years at the Humane Society and was regular donor to the ASPCA. A devout Christian of great faith, Margaret served her church as a Sunday School teacher, led Bible study, served on committees and represented her church at Annual Conferences, and sang in the choir. She also helped found OB3C, an organization of 12 churches in the Olive Branch area that provides hot meals and other necessities for as many as 250 needy families every month.
Margaret passed away in her home on Feb 21, 2020 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Quinn. She leaves behind her husband Ronnie Crook, sons Mike and Jeff, four grandchildren - Kaylee, Megan, Bry, and Andrew, her sister Penny Flynn, many nieces and nephews, and friends too numerous to name, all of whom cherish her memory.
