

Monaya “Monte” Glenn, 69, of Memphis, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Monte Glenn was a graduate of South Side High School where he was a member of the Distributive Education Club as VP and was named Mr.Distributive Education. This experience eventually led to a career in the grocery industry with Kroger which then led to his operating and owning numerous convenience stores in the Memphis area over a 30 year span. He retired in 2001. He married Diane Austin in 1970, and began a family soon after with a daughter, Angie and a son Jason who later worked in his convenience stores as did other family members - Monte was very generous to his family and friends by offering them employment. Monte had various interests which included collecting coins, vintage cars, and sports. He idolized Elvis, a love he shared with his family, and was a poker enthusiast. Monte was always known for his generous nature, great sense of humor and passion for life that was the reason for such a varied and fascinating mass of friends throughout his life. His favorite color was green. Mr. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Ray Glenn and Lula Pauline Glenn and his brother, Curtis Glenn. He is survived by his former wife and the mother of his children, Diane Glenn, his daughter, Angie Glenn Stephens (Glynn), his son, Jason Glenn, four sisters, Lula Belle Wooten, Mary Ann Garris, Zelma Blackwell, and Brenda Anerton, one brother, Charles Glenn, and four grandchildren, Ashlyn Glenn, Madison Glenn, Austin Downs, and Kasen Hogbin. The family will receive friends Friday, June 24, 2016 from 5-8pm and the funeral service will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 2pm, all at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654.
