

Myrna Flo Wallace Lowrie, age 87, went to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on September 3, 2025. She died peacefully at home with family, following a brief hospital stay at Baptist Hospital – DeSoto. She was a dutiful Daughter, a Loving Wife, Devoted Mother to her daughters, and a loving, generous friend to all who knew her.
Her parents were James William Wallace & Lois Darnell Wallace. She was the first of seven grandchildren of William Lynn Wallace, Sr. & Lula Lee Brooks Wallace. Her maternal grandparents were Robert Lee Darnell & Annie Fore Darnell.
She grew up in a Christian home among loving extended family in Wakefield, a community six miles northeast of Independence, MS.
Among her vivid childhood memories, she recalled that as a young child, her Father would point out to her “The Big Dipper” and other constellations he had learned about in his classes at the University of Mississippi, where he majored in Astronomy.
Another childhood memory of Myrna’s was when she and Bobby Lowrie were Bride & Groom in a “Tom Thumb Wedding”.
At Independence High School she excelled in Home Economics. A picture of her modeling a two-piece suit she made appeared in “The Tate Democrat” newspaper after the suit was chosen as “The Best” by her teacher and classmates.
Myrna graduated from Independence High School, Northwest Community College, and Millsaps College. She continued her formal education by earning a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Ole Miss. Prior to spending most of her 38 ½ year teaching career at Magnolia Heights School, she taught in Denver, Colorado, Memphis, Tennessee, and at Hillcrest Academy in Thyatira, MS.
On June 20, 1964, Myrna married the love of her life, Bobby Lowrie, at Trinity Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. To this union were born two Daughters: Andrea & Guyla. Myrna & Bobby were active members at Mt. Zion Baptist Church until recent years when health issues prevented regular attendance. The family wishes to thank the members of Mt. Zion for their love, support, and prayers during the last few years.
Myrna is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bobby Lowrie, and her two Daughters - Andrea Lowrie of Madison, MS. & Guyla Lowrie Brubaker of Franklin, TN.
Visitation will be at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Independence, MS Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 10:00 am with a funeral service to begin at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
