Robert Cecil Young, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 4, 2023 at his home in Olive Branch, MS. He was born on October 29, 1934 to the late Myles Harold and Virginia Neil Young in Sardis, MS. Robert retired from Memphis Light, Gas and Water in 1985 after working 32 years, 6 months and 29 days. After his retirement, he worked and played golf at Cherokee Valley Golf Course as well as doing odd jobs for people. During his lifetime, he was an active member of Davant Avenue Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Church and most recently, Maples Memorial Methodist Church until his health declined. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Virgillia Miller Harris Young; his parents, Myles Harold and Virginia Neil Young; three sibilings, Harold Park Sonny, Irving Leo, and James Douglas. He leaves behind three children, Gwenda R. Gnadt (John Lochren), Carol Denise Buckner, Robert Brian Young; two siblings, Jim Ed and Marjie Ann. Robert also leaves behind four grandchildren: Brandy Michelle Noonan (Jerry), Joshua Thornton, Ingrid Young, Ester Young and six great grandchildren: Lexie Buynoch, Chloe Buynoch, Liam Noonan, Alyssa Noonan, Lucian Noonan, and Presley Thornton. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 10:00 am at Brantley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Autumn Woods Cemetery in Olive Branch, MS.
