It is with great sadness that the family of Roy R. Holmes announces his passing on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the age of 69 years. In earlier years Roy enjoyed the rodeo. So much, that he was 2 time world champion team roper. He loved to hunt. He enjoyed his time with DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department as a helicopter pilot. Roy grew up with an incredible work ethic and demand for perfection like no other. He was rich with a generous heart, loyalty, knowledge and the need to finish what he started. He took much pride in his family and friends, as well as his accomplishments. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, I.J. and Opal Holmes. He is survived by his son, Scott Lawhorn, his sister, Martha Ann Bowen, his brother, Clifton Holmes, and four grandchildren, Hanna Jane Lawhorn, Olivia Lawhorn, Mason Golden, and Brandon Golden. The family will receive friends Monday, September 23, 2019 from 11am until the memorial service begins at 1pm, all at First Baptist Church of Olive Branch, 9155 Highland St. Olive Branch, MS. Brantley Funeral Home of Olive Branch has been entrusted with the care of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that all memorial contributions be made in Roy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
