

G. Lyall Harrison passed away peacefully at the Penticton Regional Hospital on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. Born George Lyall Harrison on December 1, 1919 in Carmen, Manitoba to William Samuel Harrison and Mahalia Spray (Cummer) Harrison. Predeceased by his wife Mary Townsend, brother William Ronald (Ronnie) Harrison, sisters, Lorna Mae (Harrison) Lewis and Iona Spray( Harrison) Moll. Survived by Lorna’s children, Tyrrell Lewis (Lisa), Kim Lewis, Ron Lewis (Susan), Patricia Kallio (Bruce) and Iona’s children, Norman Moll (Fran), Mary Ann Clarke (Doug), Charles Moll and Bill Moll. Lyall leaves many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Lyall apprenticed as a shoemaker in Nelson in the 1930’s until he enlisted in 1941. After the war Lyall worked at CM&S (Cominco) and was a wonderful handyman. We all had great faith that he could repair anything. Mary and Lyall lived in Squamish, Parksville and then made their home in Oliver. Lyall was well informed and a great reader of books and newspapers, a supporter of the Sierra Club and most importantly kept in touch with a host of friends and relatives both in British Columbia and Manitoba. Lyall was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 97, Oliver and spent time as the British Columbia/Yukon Command of the Royal Canadian Legion and was a lifetime member of the Oliver Elks #267. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010, 11 o’clock at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 97, 36217 97th Street, Oliver. Rev. Ray Turner officiating. Interment will follow at the Oliver Cemetery, Veteran’s Section.
