

On Friday, February 14, 2014 at 1 a.m., longtime Oliver resident, Otto Hess passed away peacefully in McKinney Place with his granddaughter at his side. Otto was well known in the Oliver area, often seen driving his red Volkswagen Beetle. Otto was born in 1919 at a German settlement in Borodino, Bessarabia, and came to Canada as a boy of 7.
He was raised on a farm in northern Alberta and settled in Oliver in 1955. He was a stucco and plastering contractor for 33 years in this area and a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Otto enjoyed cultivating his fruit orchard and garden.
Otto’s death was preceded by that of his wife Yvonne, and daughter Gailene. He is survived by his sons, Gerry and Randall Hess, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his many brothers and sisters and their extended families.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014, 11 o’clock at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 748 Similkameen Avenue, Oliver. Interment to follow at the Oliver Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Blaine Krist at
