

Arlo was preceded in death by grandparents Christoph and Matilda Zeitner, Tripp, SD and August and Emma Zander, Roscoe SD, parents Arthur and Martha Zeitner, brothers LaVonne Arthur, Rallen
Richard and Norlan Leon, wife Sue, niece Cynthia, and his close friend Larry Martin, Wichita KS.
Arlo married Sue B Peck on March 19, 1965 in Emmaus Lutheran Church, Tripp, SD. A son, Eric
Christoph was born on November 19, 1968, at Bergstrom AFB hospital in Austin, TX. Arlo and
Sue drove back to Tripp SD where Eric was baptized in Emmaus Lutheran Church. Sue died on
March 19, 1970. On July 7, 1973 Arlo married Konstance (Konnie) Kay Lehr in Emmaus Lutheran
Church in Tripp, SD. They have made their home in Bellevue NE ever since.
Arlo is survived by loving wife Konnie, son Eric Christoph, grandson Greyson Christoph Arlo,
Sister- in-law Phyllis Zeitner, Sister-in law Kim Lehr (Kevin Carlson), brother-in-law Kelly Lehr
(Bridget) nieces and nephews Allen (Michelle), Melvin (Dawn), Dale (Cathy), Leon (Sheryl), Norlan Zeitner and Shawn (Kris) Zeitner, Nickolas Laber, Kristine Laber, Adrienne (Chris) Gilberts and Britt Lehr and personal
friend, Dr James T Biskup, who cared for Arlo since August 1989.
Arlo, third son of Arthur and Martha (Zander) Zeitner was born February 23, 1938 on a farm in
rural Delmont, SD. He was baptized in St. Peters Lutheran church, rural Delmont, SD and
confirmed in 1935 by Rev Leland Grams, First Lutheran church in 1959 at Faulkton, SD.
He attended Lafoon country school, 5 miles east of Faulkton SD and Freedom school 4 miles
West of Wecota, SD, finished grade school in Faulkton and graduated high school with the class
of 1956.
After graduation Arlo worked with his dad doing road construction work and later with
Christiansen Construction Company operating road graders and rebuilding roads. Arlo enlisted
in the Air Force in March of 1959 at age 21, went to San Antonio TX for boot camp, then to
Amarillo TX for tech school. Arlo’s desire was to serve the Air Force operating heavy
equipment, so he was assigned to equipment such as typewriters, copy machines and file
cabinets. After completion of tech school he was assigned to Athens, Greece for 3 ½ years
before returning stateside and stationed at McConnell AFB, Wichita, KS. After 2 years Arlo
volunteered and was selected to serve as an Administrative Inspector with the 12th AF Inspector
General team at James Connolly AFB Waco, TX. In 1968, the 12th AF Headquarters moved to
Bergstrom AFB Austin, TX. After 3 ½ years with the IG team, he was transferred to Southeast
Asia for a tour with the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing at Takhli AFB Thailand (1969-1970). Arlo’s
next duty station was Offutt AFB Omaha, NE with the 544th Aerial Reconnaissance Technical
Wing. While at Offutt his application for transfer to a 1st SGT position was accepted and he
transferred to the 3902 Operations Squadron at Offutt. In Feb 1972 he was assigned to be 1st
SGT at Diyarbakir, Turkey for a one year tour. Upon completion of this tour, Arlo returned
to Offutt AFB, resumed the duties of an administrator and was assigned to the Strategic Air
Command Reconnaissance Center at Headquarters Strategic Air Command. He served at the
SAC Recon Center until retirement on 1 April 1979. At that time Arlo had been the
Administrative Superintendent with the rank of MSGT and had served 20 years and 6 days of
active duty. Arlo was a life member of the DAV, Air Force Sergeants Association, Retired
Enlisted Association and Non-Commissioned Officer Association.
Arlo was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran church in Omaha NE. He served on the
Stewardship committee, the Board of Deacons, the Board of Elders and as an usher.
