March 20, 1936, the Spirit of God’s Love called forth a child named Beverly Lee, aside from her mother Bessie calling ”Beverly” in a moment of motherly frustration, she was known to family, friends, teachers as Bev. Even though Bev came to prefer the city, the farm, the harvest, the work ethic provided the foundation for her values of caring for life, all of life.
On August 22, 2024, Bev transitioned into the realm of eternal love. Her physical presence, laughter, curious presence will be missed, the spirit of this woman, nurtured me and many others in their journey through life.
The family, whose lives she touched and will now will find strength from her love include her spouse, Don Sarton; daughters, Wendy Fleming and Bonnie Mierau (I would use step-daughter or step-son, but she never utilized those terms); son, Kyle Sarton; daughters-in-law, Julie Sarton and Laura Mierau; five grandchildren include Dawn (Thomas), Erin (Robert IV), Evan, Kylie and Noah; and the focus of great love and joy, two great-grandchildren, Ruthie and Robert V. A; sister, Linda (Jim); brother, Dennis (Fae); and many nieces and nephews.
Bev’s father and mother, Harold E. (Edward) Beaumont and Bessie K. (Kral) Beaumont; along with a sister, Anita (Stanley); and two brothers, Dean (Betty) and Donnie (LaVonne) led her through the Valley of the Shadow.
Her infectious laughter was a delight, as was her compassion and love. At the core of our cellular structure lies the spirit of love, and that love was evident in the journey of Bev. That is not to say she was perfect -- she could be critical as she held high standards, she had her biases and viewpoints and did not hesitate to let you know of her disapproval -- but her expression did NOT come from a place of anger, rejection or hate. It too was rooted in honesty, integrity and her deep love and forgiveness.
Bev had many interests; among the most prominent include Nebraska Football, Go Big Red, sewing, cooking, shopping, and reading. Bev was deeply inquisitive, I would say the activities that define Bev the Best, searching for books and reading, along with following a map on our many journeys. She wanted to know not only the route, but what was along the route, towns, villages, places of interest. She would keep me informed of what we were driving by. Bev Read constantly, a book always by her chair and in her purse and bag when we left the house. Even though she would have some cryptic comment about the time I spend in Lowes or Ace Hardware, she was always immersed in a book upon my return. On several occasions the local library would order a book they did not have, she was one of the first to read the book by Michelle Obama. She remembered lines from books she had read years ago and found wisdom on the pages of Thrillers, Mystery and Romance books. Some of her favorite authors were Sandra Brown, Janet Daily, Joan Johnson, Tony Hillerman and William Kent Kruger. Hillerman and Kruger provided insight into the cultures of the Navajo and Hopi, Ojibwa respectively. Bev would go most anywhere to hear Biblical Scholars and Preachers such as Fred Craddock, Walter Bruggeman and Joey Jetter.
Bev made several work/mission trips to the Navajo and Lakota reservations. On the Navajo she joined several other women in sewing curtains and hanging them in several homes. She also made and shipped through One Nation Walking Together baby quilts. Her compassion was rooted deep.
Bev, a woman of many interests, many passions, but the greatest of these is Love.
