Carolee was born on August 7, 1941, in Geneva, Nebraska, and was raised in Exeter, where she attended Exeter High School. At just 10 years old, she met the love of her life, Larry Schneider. Their childhood friendship grew into a lasting romance, and they began dating as high school juniors. The couple eloped on August 15, 1960, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned more than six decades.
In 1961, Carolee and Larry settled in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they began raising their family. They later made their home in Ralston, Nebraska, where they lovingly raised their five children: Carrie, Elizabeth (Beth), Kimberly (Kim), Aimee, and their only son, Keith. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on August 15, 2023, shortly before Larry’s passing later that year. She dedicated many years to raising her children while working from home and later retired from The Knot as a data entry specialist.
As a young girl, Carolee dreamed of being a cowgirl and had a lifelong love of Westerns. A true tomboy at heart, she enjoyed sports during a time when opportunities for girls were limited. Throughout her life, she found joy in bowling and golfing with Larry, family, and friends. She also loved trips to the casino and enjoyed playing Bingo and Bunko. Carolee had a passion for cooking and gardening, and food was truly her love language—no one ever left her home without being offered something to eat.
Carolee is survived by her children: Carrie (Mark) Jorgensen, Kimberly (John) Brockhaus, Aimee (Paul) Curran, and Keith (Becky) Schneider; son-in-law Jamie Schmidt; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; sisters Marcia (Dean) Beecher and Cindy (Rich) Roettger; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Schneider; daughter Elizabeth (Beth) Schmidt; her father Norvie Gewecke, mother Gladys Gibbons, step-father Leo Gibbons; sisters Vonné Schnell and Joyce Griffith; brother Robert Gewecke; and grandson Zachary Paul Curran.
