

Don attended grade school at Our Lady of Lourdes before the family moved to Ashland Nebraska where he spent his junior high school years. The family moved back to Omaha around 1980. Don attended Central High School, then Tech High School and later achieved his GED.
Don was employed at Sam’s, a hamburger joint off 29th and Saint Mary's - the famous 3 for $1.00 hamburgers. Later, working for Bronco's off 45th and Leavenworth as a shift manager and then managed a small Gas Station,58th & Center, while attending a school for computer programming. Don returned to Bronco's and then went on disability in 2000.
In 2012, Don received a call, and it was the happiest day of his life. He found out that he was a father to a son named David who was born in 1985 and that he also had a granddaughter named Jayden. Within 6 months, Don was on a bus to make a trip to see his son and his family. Don had the time of his life; it was his first fishing trip with his son.
Don enjoyed spending time with his cats Bubba and Chloe, listening to music, hanging out with friends and family.
Don passed away on January 5, 2025. He was a friend, a cousin, a nephew, a brother, a son, a father, a grandfather, and a great grandfather.
Don was loved, he will be missed and may he rest in peace. He is survived by his father, Donald R. Hanes; stepfather, Charles D. Palm; son, David Marsden (Jaime); granddaughter, Jayden; great-granddaughter, Isabella; brother, Mike Palm (Tammy); sisters, Angie Hanes, Dixie Miller (Doug), and Shirley Fisher (Chris); aunt, Evelyn Rockwell; and cousins, nephews, nieces, and many other family and friends.
A memorial visitation for Donald will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM.
