Dottie was born on April 5, 1937 in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan, Canada to Abram J. and Adeline Dirks. Dottie and her twin, Doreen, were raised in Saskatchewan along with their brothers and sisters. Adeline passed away before the twin girls were two years old. The two eldest daughters, Helen and Miriam, were charged with caring for Dottie and Doreen.
At the age of 16 Dottie, Doreen and their sister Selma moved to Calgary where Dottie found work as a nanny and housekeeper. There she formed a very special bond with the family. She was in contact with the family throughout the rest of her life.
Dottie was active in the Mennonite church and met Linda Wall at a conference. It was through that friendship that she met Jerry Huebert at a mutual friend’s wedding in Mountain Lake, MN. The story is that Jerry and Dottie worked together that night to pull a prank on the wedding couple. Dottie is well known for her mischevious and fun nature.
Jerry and Dottie corresponded by mail for 2 years while Jerry was serving at the Minfield Children’s Home in Alaska. Dottie accepted his wedding proposal and they were married on July 11, 1961 in Mountain Lake, MN.
Jerry and Dottie moved to Omaha, NE where Jerry worked at the Union Packing Company. Dottie spent her days helping care for her nieces and nephews as well as keeping her own home. The couple also bred and raised Pomeranians.
On June 21, 1966, Dottie and Jerry welcomed their first son, Rodney Allan Huebert. He was followed by a younger brother, Gerald Jason Huebert on November 23, 1968. Dottie babysat many of the neighborhood kids while raising her own two sons. Their home was always open to family and friends for visiting and fun.
In the late 1980’s, Dottie started working as a housekeeper at Leisure Inn Motel. She worked there for about 10 years. Following the closure of Leisure Inn, Dottie went to work for Continental General Insurance Company with her dear friend Georgia. She worked for Continental General in the mail room until her retirement in 2004.
Dottie and Jerry spent many weekends and evenings caring for their home and yard. Dottie loved beautiful flowers and gardening. They also maintained a vegetable garden for many years. They enjoyed working side by side to maintain the blessings God had provided.
Dottie and Jerry joined the Omaha Gospel Tabernacle shortly after moving to Omaha. Later the church moved to West Omaha and became Christ Community Church. They faithfully attended and served at CCC for over 60 years.
Both Dottie and Jerry spent many hours visiting and enjoying time with their grandchildren. They attended many ball games, concerts, celebrations and graduations. Dottie had the privilege of attending the weddings of two of her grandchildren.
Dottie’s main goal was to share God’s love and the promise of salvation through Jesus Christ. She sewed many, many spiritual seeds throughout her life. She wanted everyone to know about her Savior and the relationship they could also have with Him.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry, 7 brothers, and 5 sisters. She is survived by their sons, Rodney (Jacalyn) Huebert of Des Moines, IA and Gerald (Jill) Huebert of Omaha; grandchildren Camille (Eric) Winter of Bluegrass, IA; Jonathan (Jazzmine) Huebert of West Des Moines, IA; Jacob Huebert, Andrea Huebert and Bryson Huebert of Omaha NE.
