Dorothy (Dot) was born in Omaha to Chris and Hazel Nielsen.
She met husband Robert Stanzel on a blind date when they were 20 and they were married for almost 53 years. They had four children.
She retired from Millard Public Schools where she was a paraprofessional passionate about her work with students with special needs.
A lifelong member of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, she was active in the Sewing Group and helped make many, many quilts for Lutheran World Relief.
Preceded in death by husband Robert (Bob) Stanzel, son Robert C. Stanzel, and daughter-in-law Reneé Stanzel.
Survived by brother, Dick Nielsen (Suzi), children Scott (Jackie), Diana (Don Tabor), Dan (Jeannie), grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service for Dorothy will be held at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church 2650 Farnam Street, Omaha, NE, March 14, 2025 at 11 a.m.
