Doug was born on February 11th, 1963 in Omaha, NE. As a person with Down Syndrome, Doug never let that hold back the impact he could have on others or himself. After graduating high school, he would go on to work numerous jobs and live in his apartment in Midtown. Being an Ambassador for Encore, he worked at several places, such as Care Recycling, Loziers, Northeast Industries and in a few hospital and college kitchens.
Doug never knew a stranger and was able to find a friend in everyone he met, which made him a wonderful presence at every place he worked and visited. It was all too common for him to always ask you “How you doin’?” and be ready to listen and share stories. Throughout his entire life, he never missed out on having a good time; it was impossible for him to not live life and work to achieve every goal he had. One big accomplishment of his was learning how to drive and doing so every chance he could. The only thing he truly failed at was attempting to rewire a battery operated TV to get Cox cable. He loved to spend time outdoors and go camping, fishing, enjoying a horseback ride, and playing with his 5 dogs, Sophie, Bogart, Murphy, Charlie and Molly. He also adored his cat, Samantha.
The most important thing that Doug cherished was his family. The time spent with family, whether it was a celebration or the annual family reunion, was valued to the fullest. The bonds he made were truly unconditional and the smiles he left us with will be forever permanent.
