He is preceded in death by his wife Marge, brother Robert, and parents Della and James Tunnyhill.
He is survived by his loving family.
Special thanks to Pastor Sarah and the members of Discovery church, neighbors Mike & Tammy, and the Marines of the MCL Miguel Keith Detachment 609.
Duane was a very proud Marine, enlisting when he was 17 years old. He talked his parents into signing for him. It was his childhood dream to be a Marine. He fought on Iwo Jima in the Pacific, earned a Purple Heart, and saw duty in occupied Japan.
After an honorable discharge, Duane returned to Omaha and married his wife Margaret (Marge). He worked for the Metropolitan Utilities District for 41 years.
Both he and Marge enjoyed attending the yearly 5th Marine Division reunions, watching the Huskers play football in Lincoln, traveling with them for their away games, and spending time at their cabin on Lake Waconda. Duane was also a 70-year member of Bee Hive Lodge #184 and a long-time member of Discovery church.
In his later years he particularly looked forward to his Marine birthday drive bys. Members of the 609 Miguel Keith Marine Corps League would convoy to his home, drive-by with horns honking and flags waving, and return to have some birthday brownies, and swap tales with him in his driveway.
The brotherhood of the Marine Corps was so important to Duane.
