Gilbert Julian “Gil” Harding graduated from mortal life on January 21, 2026 at the age of 86. He is now reunited with his eternal companion, Sandra Lee Hunt Harding. He was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Gil and Sandra left their beloved Rocky Mountains and raised their 7 children in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; Berlin, Germany; and Omaha, Nebraska as Gil served as a United States Army civil servant. Gil had many talents and hobbies, but his pride were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always had a joke ready to go, even after dementia took a large portion of his mind (can I borrow some of your hair?). Gil also enjoyed running, reading and service. He taught his children the value of service. He was always the first to raise his hand when others were in need. He was a lifelong, active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In his youth he served a volunteer mission to the Bavaria region of Germany. Throughout his life he served as a lay leader in many capacities.
Gil is preceded in death by his dear wife Sandra and 8 siblings. He is survived by seven children, Sean (Carol), Nate (Shawna), Guy (Trina), Tina (Chris) Zimmerman, Heather (Frank) McCarthey, Jacob (Megan), and Chelsea (Aaron) Bryan. He also leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Services for Gil will be held on January 24, 2026 at 10am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel located at 17606 Spaulding St, Omaha, Nebraska 68116. A viewing will be held at 9am at the church building. Gil will be interred following the funeral services at Westlawn-Hillcrest cemetery next to Sandra.
