May 4th, 1922. His younger years were spent on the family farms in and around
Rocky Springs and Hankinson Mississippi. From a very young age, he was involved
with Church and attended services every Sunday. He was a believer in the word all
his life. Henry’s formal education ended quite abruptly when he had to enter the
workforce to help support the family after his father was injured in an accident. At 19, Henry enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Luzon in the Philippines. There he exhibited considerable aptitude in all things mechanical. He served honorably and was a Purple Heart recipient. After hismilitary service, he migrated to Omaha. In 1946 he met and married Adolphia
Kincaid. The union produced four children and lasted 57 years until her death in
2004. In 1949 the family joined Hope Lutheran Church. Henry was able to parlay the mechanical skills he acquired in the military into gainful employment for several companies in and around Omaha. . In 1957 Henry joined the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 571. In 1971, Henry formed, along with his older brother Melvin, Steed Bros. Construction Company, a full-service demolition, excavating, landscaping, and hauling business. Steed Bros contracted with all the major area corporations and city and state agencies of Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri. Always a life long learner, he went on to complete his GED in 1992 at the age of 70. He operated Steed Bros. until the early nineties when Adelphia became ill and was devoted to her care until her death in 2004. He spent the last five years of his life as a resident of the Douglas County Health Center. Henry is proceeded in death by his loving wife Adolphia. He is survived by sister Eula Bell, Vicksburg, MS; brothers Frank, Las Vegas, NV; and Raymond (Doris) Country Club Hills, IL; sons Fay (Pearlie) San Bernardino, CA; Henry Jr, Phoenix, AZ; Rodney, (Carolyn) Las Vegas, NV; Claude, Des Moines, IA; and daughter Camille, Omaha, NE. Grandchildren Jeanie Carroyl Hadley (Bryant) Columbus, OH; Charon Sonntag (Joseph) Columbus, OH; Stacey Banks (Jeanine) Jacksonville, Fl; Kim Gartner (Steve) Plainfield, Il; Tiffany Watkins, Charlotte, NC; Vonda McGee (Morgan) Antioch, AL; Felicia Johnson, Omaha, NE; Lori Steed, Macon, GA; Camille Brown (Dwight), Las Vegas, NV; Rhonda Steed, Las Vegas, NV; Nicole Eddy, Omaha, NE, Claude Phillip, Des Moines, IA; and Marcus Steed, Omaha, NE. Over 30 great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren, and other loving relatives and friends.
