Lyle, a loving husband, father, and grandfather is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Judy and Holly (Allen); granddaughters, Ember and Avery; siblings, Trish (Steve), Susan, Teresa (Eddie), Dennis (Nyla), and sister-in-law Monica; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve.
Lyle grew up on a farm near Neligh, Nebraska. While attending Neligh-Oakdale High School, he played football, wrestled, and was selected for Boys State. He attended Chadron State College, where he majored in geography and was part of campus security. In college, he also met his wife. They spent their honeymoon working in Estes Park. He graduated early and joined the Air Force, which landed he and his wife in Omaha. He then completed his Master's at University of Nebraska Omaha and started a family. They spent weekends hiking at state parks or thrifting at record shows with his Record Club friends. Lyle spent his final years enjoying visits with daughters, granddaughters, and family members.
He was one of a kind, with a big booming voice and an extensive knowledge of many subjects. His interests included geography, doo wop music from the 50s and 60s, old 45 records, auto races, horse races at Aksarben, old movies, auto auctions, good food, saving animals, and long walks surrounded by big trees and beautiful scenery. He climbed many mountains, including several 14'ers. His confident, tough exterior hid a huge heart. There will never be anyone else like him.
Those who knew him are aware of his dislike of "big productions." There will be no service, as he would want us to remember him privately in our own way.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.westlawnhillcrest.com for the Hansen family.
