Part of her friends/loving family was the Cassem Tierney Law Firm where she was employed over 60 years. VISITATION: Tuesday, July 21, 5-8pm. CELEBRATION of Life: Wednesday, July 22, at 11am. Both Services will be at Westlawn Hillcrest Funeral Home. Our mom, Nan Kay Buckingham, was born on June 8, 1941 to Gerald (Papa) and Gertrude (Nanny), who had three children, Mom, Connie & Jay. Her elementary school years were spent at Pickard Elementary School in Omaha, graduating Omaha Central High School in 1959.
She began working at Cassem Tierney Law Firm part-time in high school, and had a career that would span over 60 years. She raised her family alongside the families of the Firm.
In 1959, on the campus of Omaha University in the lunch line, she met her future husband and love of her life, Cliff. She went home and told her mom, “Today I met the man I’m going to marry!” - her dream came true on June 17, 1961. The next year, they started their family by welcoming their first daughter, Elizabeth, followed by Dianne, Clint, and Laura. The children have all married and started families of their own - Mom gave great thought and consideration to what her grandchildren would call her, lovingly landing on “Gammy.”
Gammy LOVED being a grandmother. The grandchildren, and soon great-grandchildren, would spend many hours at Gammy & Papa’s house gardening with her, playing office, or doing crafts. Often times the house was filled with activity, laughter, and hand prints on the front door - Gammy loved the activity. There was never a dull moment with 11 grandchildren; Kelsey, Callie, Caleb, David, Austey, Corrin, Cecelia, Blair, Allison, Lucy and Gezahegne, and six great-grandchildren; Alyssa, Austin, Olivia, CJ, RJ and Kingston,
Mom created memories at Calvin Crest with her sewing girlfriends and her annual girls’ weekend with her daughters, daughter-in-love, and nieces. Mom’s love of sleep, lunch with the girls, dinner out and cross-stitching would also fill her time.
Mom & Dad’s extended “family” included their bridge group, and they were all lucky to raise their families together and remain dear friends to this day. She loved cruises with Papa, annual October Waubonsie trips with the family, and really any time her family gathered to play Hand and Foot after an impromptu meal together.
On Sundays, at any get together, Gammy’s rule was “everyone needs to be out by 7pm,” and Papa would always add, “and no texting on this level.”

I met Nan in 1962 when I went to work for Cassem Tierney right out of high school. She was always so kind to me. I never forgot her. May she rest in peace.

Almost 50 years of friendship! What a gift her friendship was. Such fun to be with. Such caring for Tom and I because we have no family here. Her friends were really important to her.
But her family was everything to her and I know Nan meant so very, very much to the family.
We were with Nan days before the country shut down. That last trip was still a go. Nan and Cliff said if they got Covid and died they could just be tossed overboard! They were about living life fully.
A few weeks ago I asked if they wanted to bring their own food to our patio. No contamination if Tom and I had the virus. We social distanced and had a great evening. I am so very glad to have had that last time with Nan.
The memories are endless. Couple trips, family trips, girl trips. Four women consuming a salad for 12 at one sitting!
Precious family, may your memories bless you every day in the weeks ahead. Our prayers will be there.

Nan and Cliff were neighbors for 35 years. Laura walked my daughter home from school and stayed with her until I got home. I've also been at Presbyterian Church of the Master with them for more years than that. They are the best and we will miss Nan more than ever. Much love to the whole family.

My family was lucky enough to be included in some of the Buckingham family events. Those memories from Waubonsie State Park with the Buckinghams will be in our hearts forever. Nan was an exceptionally caring woman who set an example for the entire family and many unknown others to follow. Rest In Peace Nan!!

Laura, Mike, Cecilia, Allison, and Lucy -
Our deepest sympathies to your family. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Please know that your love for Nan was evident in your every day conversation and stories. I loved hearing of her dedication to the law firm as well as the lively family gatherings and trips. While I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing her, you made me feel as though I did. Sending our love to you during this hard time.
