Where to start. Penny was the life of any party. Her laugh was so contagious and she always made everyone felt so welcomed. She was such a selfless person and gave so much to those around her. We shared many wonderful vacations together. One of the last times we talked, her and I agreed that our Colorado trip back in high-school with the white water rafting was one of the best trips we had together. We stayed in that cabin just outside of Breckenridge that had a hot tub. Also our many trips to Wisconsin were always so magical and memorable. Not to mention our longest trip to Ireland and England to visit Kayla. We always had so much fun on those trips and I will cherish them forever. She treated me like another daughter in the family and I always felt welcomed in the Thelen household. Even though I had to do chores. I didn’t mind. I  was with my second family. I miss sitting outside on a patio with your mom and having endless conversations till 3 in the the morning. She was a night owl. I will continue to make Jessie’s dip and she taught me how to make the best spaghetti. Every time I’ll see a Fritos bean dip can I’ll also think of her. Hah. She always had some stashed in her cupboards. Your mom also taught me to hoard the best cups that all started with a Tervis tumbler. There are so many aspects where she touched my life and the lives around us. Penny taught me the finer things of life and she was the best present giver. I have inherited a lot of plants from Penny that I have thankfully kept alive. Including the largest aloe Vera plant I’ve ever seen. There’s so many things I will miss about Penny and I will think about her all the time. I’m sorry for your loss, we lost a great woman and gained an Angel. Love you, Jess Khan. 

My best memories of Penny are the first year she went to Kearny , 4 of us from Burke High took a road trip from Omaha to visit Penny & Marcy . We got caught doing 95 mph on I-80 & haul into a podunk jail & released without a ticket ! We continued our trip & had a great weekend with girls .   My other fond memory is when Penny offered her lake house for our 35th reunion party from Burke . Everybody had a wonderful time & Penny was a beautiful hostess .  Rest in peace . I was very sad to hear of Penny’s passing. Penny was a key part of our CPA practice, controller of Midwest Renewable Energy ethanol plant and helped with numerous other businesses. She was well respected and liked by employees, clients, vendors, government representatives, and those she encountered in her career. Besides being very talented at accounting, tax preparation, letter writing and overall communications, she had great passion for her work. She was very caring and responsible in her professional life and to all those she encountered. She was a great, diligent team player yet very much a self-starter. She was immensely missed when she retired. Many also noted what an excellent mother she was and her charitable nature. I’m sure God is blessing her abundantly for sharing her many talents with us and for her many good works on earth. 

Aunt Gloria, David, Sharon, Scott, and Penny's children/grandchildren: Penny was a much loved cousin and friend. I have so many fond memories of our childhood spent together at one of our family's homes for Christmas or other events. I will always cherish all of them.  As adults, I'm so grateful that Penny and I were able to reconnect when my parents and I came back to Omaha to visit you and the rest of our family.  Thank you for always lovingly hosting us with Uncle Glenn.  I remember the fun, the laughter, and the happiness we all shared with  Penny whether it was in Omaha, Fremont, Palm Springs or here in San Diego when I was able to host her and Marcy.  Penny learned love, happiness, and her gracious, welcoming, giving nature from all of you.  I wish Penny could be healthy and still with all of us but God has other plans for her. I will miss Penny but I know she is in heaven with Uncle Glenn smiling down on all of us.  May God bless you and comfort you during this time.  I love you all.

Kelly, Michaella, Angela, Sharon, Gloria, & family, I am very sorry for your loss.  I enjoyed working with Penny over the years - since 2001 actually!  When I saw her a couple of weeks ago, she seemed peaceful & content sitting on the patio that she had to herself & with her cat Ollie to keep her company.
