She was born on June 28,1938 to Luis and Kathyrn Hoggatt and was one of five sisters who all preceded her in death: Helen Sarratt (Johnny); Marilyn Short (Terry); Sharon Polito; and Linda McLaughlin (Tom Sr,). She was jokingly nicknamed a “queen” with her sister Marilyn by her sisters. This came from their high standards for everything from meals to hotel rooms. This title gave her the right to have a reserved chair at her Mom’s Sunday dinner table and her own glass—never a cup.
On November 1, 1958 she married the love of her life Robert (Bob) Jackson who also preceded her in death. This loss stayed with her for the rest of her life. They were married 54 years and were the proud owners of many dogs who were like their children. Their favorite dogs, Peep, PJ and Molly kept them busy and proud as Bob had trained many of them to do unexpected tricks that delighted her.
She was a generous hostess for many Christmas Eves, Easters, Mother’s Days, and more. She loved Elvis and notably still holds the world’s record for greatest cheese sandwiches in history.
She is a beloved wife, thoughtful sister, dutiful daughter, loving niece, kind in-law, great aunt, good friend and proud, protective dog owner. She is survived by many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, loved ones and in-laws.
A visitation for Sallie will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68106, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
