Our beautiful mother, Susanne Bobek, passed away on May 11, 2025, on Mother’s Day. Sue was greatly loved by her family and her many friends in Omaha, Nebraska, to which she leaves behind a legacy of a gentle spirit, kindness and warmth.
Sue was born on September 24, 1937 to Franklin Charles and Ruth Eleanor Saunders in Columbus, Ohio. The family relocated to Omaha soon thereafter.
Sue’s favorite place to be was wherever she could be surrounded by her family, which brought her joy. She was a devoted mother to her children Susan (Fred), John (Mimi), Elizabeth (Will), James (Sandra), and Jennifer (Ray), who many times sought her support and advice. She compiled photo albums of her grandchildren – William, Susanne, Catherine, Zachary, Jessica, Jake, Stephanie, Adam, Shannon, and James. She loved visits from her great-grandson, William, whose playful spirit brought out the same in her. She was just getting to know her new great-granddaughter, Eden. She has two great grandchildren, James and Eleanor, who live in Rathdrum, Idaho.
The role in which she prided herself most was being a mother. She taught her children to be strong, hard-working and independent, and supported whatever their passions in life were. She loved every minute with her grandchildren.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bobek, and her sister Bonnie (Michael) Sheehan.
Sue is survived by relatives and countless friends who will deeply miss her. She was loved by her brothers and their families – Richard Saunders and James (Debbie) Saunders.
Not only did Sue earn her Bachelors in Business Administration degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, she also met her lifetime love and husband of 60 years, Richard Bobek, whom she found similar values and dedication in raising their five children.
For many years she had a successful seamstress and alteration business, allowing her to work and stay at home with her children.
Sue worked over 30 years at St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she loved being the Membership Secretary and Wedding Coordinator and her interpersonal skills, welcoming heart and genuine spirit were embraced. We are grateful Sue coordinated some of our own weddings. After she retired, her visits to Sunday services brought many clergy and congregation members to say “hi” to her and give her a hug.

“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household,
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’”
- Proverbs 31:26-29.
