Alberta F. Cahill

She was born August 23, 1933 in New York City the daughter of John and Helen (Shields) Venable.

Alberta graduated from Hancock Central School the Class of 1951.

She proudly served her country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1954 as a hospital corpsman.

Following her honorable discharge, Alberta worked at Jones Nursing Home on Academy Street, Oneonta then at Homer Folks TB Hospital until it closed and then began working at Fox Hospital first as a housekeeper and later as a physical therapy assistant for Lauren Lane as her mentor retiring in 1997 but continued to work per diem and later as a volunteer. Alberta served on the Auxiliary Board.

Alberta is survived by her children, Carla (Terry) Harkenreader and Wayne (Jody) Hartley; grandchildren, Tim (Justine) Harkenreader, Michael Harkenreader, Stephanie (Nate Edgett) and Jesse Hartley; great grandson, Julian Harkenreader. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Haines Venable; great granddaughter, Hazel Rae Edgett.

A graveside memorial service will be held at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery with military honors in the spring.
