He was born September 18, 1943 in Oneonta, the son of the late Charles and Frances (Sturiale) Carman. Charlie was a life-long Oneonta resident. For a period of time he worked for SUNY Oneonta in the Custodial Department.
Charlie was an active member of St. Mary’s Church, Oneonta for his entire life. He also spent many hours volunteering for the Salvation Army as a Bell Ringer during the Holiday Season as well as many other functions. Charlie was honored by the Salvation Army many times for his faithful volunteerism. Charlie was very proud that, throughout his life, he donated blood to the Red Cross everytime he could. He loved the Christmas Season and admiring all of the decorations around the city. He also enjoyed city events especially parades. Charlie loved music and dancing. Charlie will be remembered as a very good natured person that never complained and always had a kind word to say to someone. Many people in Oneonta will remember Charlie as always riding his bicycle throughout the city right up until the time he became ill.
He is survived by his daughter Valerie Scanlan and her husband Brett of Charlotte, NC; his daughter-in-law, Tricia Carman of Binghamton; his adoring grandchildren, Emerson, Bryce, Alaina, and Liana, and many cousins.
Charlie was predeceased by his son Jonathan Carman.
A private Funeral Service will be held at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home with Rev. David Mickiewicz, Pastor, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta.
Committal and burial will take place in the spring in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
Memorial contributions in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 25 River Street, Oneonta, NY 13820. The family would like to thank all of those that assisted Charlie in various ways.
