

Dale Underwood Joyce, 72, of Unadilla, NY, continued her journey Monday, December 19, 2016, with grace and dignity at home surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dale remained brave, strong and iron willed throughout her final weeks and days.
Her family is especially grateful to her daughter, Denise Joyce Bloodworth, for the diligent and loving care of her mother during this time.
Dale was born July 6, 1944 in Oneonta, NY, the daughter of Frederick and Joyce Underwood, Otego, NY.
She graduated from Otego Central School, The Class of 1962, and then pursued her love of music by attending SUNY Fredonia and then
graduating from SUNY Oneonta with a Bachelors Degree in Elementay Education.
Dale retired after 20 years of loyal service at Corning, Inc., as a Quality Control Specialist, in 2005.
Dale had a love for music. She was a gifted musician and vocalist, who played several instruments including the Drums, Bagpipes, Banjo and
especially her favorite instrument, the French Horn. She was a member of the Catskill Choral Society, Sweet Adelines, several Church Choirs, the
Walton Band, the Sidney Community Band and was a volunteer at Glimmerglass Opera, for many years.
She loved being outdoors, whether it was playing on a softball team, golfing or hiking. Her love of travel took her all over the US and the world.
She visited many countries, hiked mountains including, Mt. Macy, Knife's Edge on Mt. Katadin, part of the Appalachain Trail and Machu Picchu, in Peru.
She also White Water Rafted down the Grand Canyon and won the award for being the first person to be thrown from the raft.
Dale was a skilled carpenter and remodeled her home.
She enjoyed making stained glass windows. For three years, she was a chicken mascot for Brook's House of BBQ.
She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt ,niece, cousin and friend to many, and will be greatly missed.
Dale is survived by her father, Frederick Underwood; her two children, Patrick (Melissa), Otego; Denise Joyce Bloodworth, Virginia Beach, VA;
two grandchildren, Dylan and Derek Joyce; four brothers, Ralph (Joanne) Underwood, Otego; Ross Underwood (fiancee Rosa West),
VA; Jerry and (Cindy) Underwood, Rochester; Scott (Sherry) Underwood, Otego; her sister in law, Anne Underwood, TN; several aunts, nieces,
nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her mother, Joyce Burnside Underwood, Otego;
and her brother, Lynn Underwood, TN.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 2-4PM, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta, from 2-4pm. There will be no Funeral Service. Private burial will be at the Otego Evergreen Cemetery at the convenience of her children.
